PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - OCTOBER 02: Kenneth Gainwell #14 of the Philadelphia Eagles and DeVonta Smith #6 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrate with Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles after Hurts' rushing touchdown during the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field on October 02, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In Anthony’s Opening Diatribe this morning, he spoke about how he thinks the Eagles are set up to avoid a Super Bowl hangover:
“I did a national hit yesterday. We were talking about the Eagles, and they kept talking about the Super Bowl hangover. When I look at the Eagles, I think they freshened up the roster.
Sometimes you get the Super Bowl drop-off. The Rams had the Super Bowl drop-off. But the Rams were an older team, and they sold their soul for that Super Bowl. They went all in on Veterans. When they come back the next year, they had a hangover. Because they were older. And also they won, so that took away a bit of the thirst.
I look at the Eagles, and I think youth is what thwarts that. Youth is the best tonic for the Super Bowl hangover.
The way they are structured, and the way they are built, they have veterans in the right places, but also youth. AJ Brown and Devonta Smith are young, so is Jalen Hurts. Take that triad, those three. They will be like we haven’t won. They want to win. So they will want to establish themselves. So I think the way they are built will organically thwart any Super Bowl hangover.
You know I am not a hot-take guy. But this stretch could become the best stretch in Eagles’ history. Even though they won the Superbowl in 2018, the best stretch in my lifetime was the Andy Reid era. Playoffs in 200. The Championship games in 01, 02, and 02. Super Bowl in 04. Then if you stretch it out to 08, that is 5 championship games in 9 seasons. I think they eclipse that. They already made the Superbowl once.
I think this could be the greatest stretch of Eagles football. And I want to cherish every second of it. Can we just enjoy the season, before we turn to February 2024? With what the Eagles are embarking on, I think we should cherish every moment.”

Is This Eagles Roster Even Better Than Last Year? Lets Find Out
Last season, the Eagles had a pretty historic roster. Before the season, and then throughout it, Howie Roseman seemed to patch every single hole. They needed a Cornerback to play alongside Slay. Bring in James Bradberry. Needed a Safety. So they made a trade for CJ Gardner Johnson. Needed Defensive Tackle Depth? They added Linval Jospeh and Ndamukong Suh. It was nearly the perfect roster, with no holes. It’s why they had such a historic season, losing just 3 games in the regular season, with two of those losses coming without Jalen Hurts. They came up short in the Super Bowl. But the Eagles’ roster was about as good as we have ever seen.
It is why going into the off-season, a lot of people were nervous. The Eagles had the perfect depth chart, and couldn’t get it done. And chances seemed pretty low that Howie could put together a team that good again. It looked like they may lose most of their secondary, as well as their best interior pass rusher. And some of that did happen. Javon Hargrave walked to get a massive deal in San Francisco. CJ Gardner-Johnson waited too long and ended up settling for a small deal with the Lions. But Howie did hold onto James Bradberry. Something no one thought would happen.
But then they kept adding. On paper, they knocked the draft out of the park. They brought in some key free agents too. Which begs the question. Did Howie Roseman somehow put together an even better roster than last season? It is strange to say, and we need to see them prove it on the field first. But he just may have done it. Let’s go position by position, to see if this Eagles roster is better, on paper of course, than last year’s.
