Audio Vault- Tommy Greene Throws a No-Hitter

See what Andrew Salciuanas played in The Audio Vault today. Every day on The Anthony Gargano Show, Andrew Salciunas grabs some audio that is relevant to the day, to play for us. Only today, Andrew Salciunas was out.  Which meant it was Ray “Dickie” Dunn in the producer’s chair. It was Ray’s chance to delve into the Vault to pull out the Audio of his choice. And today, he decided to honor the time Phillies Pitcher Tommy Greene threw a No Hitter.

It took place on this day, May 23rd, back in 1991. Tommy Greene was on the mound vs the Expos. It took him 130 pitches, and he walked 7 people. But he got through all 9 innings with no hits. It was the first time anyone had ever thrown a no-hitter on the road vs the Expos in there 20 years of existence at that point. And it came in Tommy Greene’s 15th start.

The Audio Vault- Happy Birthday Jayson Werth and Wilson Valdez

• Happy Birthday Jayson Werth

  Over the weekend it was Jayson Werth’s Birthday. Werth was of course a key piece to the Phillies run of 5 straight NL East victories, though he wasn’t here for all of them. He eventually got his bag in Washington after how well he played in Philly. But before that, he did a lot of good things in a Phillies uniform. So to honor Werth, Ray Dunne played a collection of key Home Runs hit by Werth in the playoffs. Two that helped them win the World Series. And then a few more the next season that helped them get back there before they lost to the Yankees.

• Happy Birthday Wilson Valdez

  Speaking of Phillies legends, it was also Wilson Valdez’s birthday this past weekend. He probably did not have quite the impact on the Phillies that Jayson Werth did. But there is one moment he will be remembered by Phillies fans for. The time he came onto the mound in the 19th inning and got 3 outs. In case you forget, Valdez was not a pitcher, he was an infielder. But he got the job done in a marathon game that lasted over 6 hours. So Ray Dunne played the 3 outs that Valdez got in honor of his Birthday.

• Syracuse Nationals Approved to Move to Philly and Become Sixers

  It is a pretty big day in Philly Sports history. This is the day the Syracuse Nationals got permission to move to Philadelphia, and eventually become the Sixers. Right about now we may be wishing that never happened because it led to a lot of hurt for us. But we only hurt because we love the Sixers. To honor the date, Ray Dunne played the audio of the Nationals winning their first championship.

• Carmelo Anthony Retires

  Carmelo Anthony announced he is retiring from the NBA today. The future Hall of Fame is finally stepping away from the game, after not playing all season. So Ray Dunne went into the vault and pulled out the time TJ McConnell hit a game-winning turnaround jumper to beat Carmelo Anthony and his Knicks during the Process years.
