Rich Hofmann- Not Looking Good For Joel Embiid to Play Tonight
When Joel Embiid first sprain his knee, there was some optimism that he would be ready by Game 1. That optimism doubled when the Hawks forced a game 6 vs the Celtics, giving Embiid more time to rest. But as Game 1 got closer, the news on Embiid did not get much better. He was listed as doubtful, and Doc Rivers was not the beacon of optimism when asked about his status. So now, just a few hours away, The Best Show Ever talked to Rich Hofmann of The Athletic to see what he knew about Embiid’s status. The news was not good.
"I do not think he's going to play tonight, we'll see for Wednesday, it's a fluid thing, there's still a lot of uncertainty"

- @rich_hofmann on Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid participated in the morning shootaround but did not seem to be doing too much more work than that. So the Sixers as of now will be without the MVP in game 1. The good news is that Rich seemed much higher on Embiid’s chances to play Wednesday. Rich noted that with this injury, two days could actually make a difference. But even that is not a lock.
So can the Sixers compete in this series if they are without Embiid for some of the games? On that, Rich Hofmann did think they had at least a chance.
"The Sixers are 12-5 without Joel Embiid, Doc has been pretty good shorthanded"

The Celtics have not been playing their best ball, and we have seen this Sixers team win without Embiid this season. Including in Game 4 vs the Nets. But the Celtics are a much better team. Winning without Embiid would mean Harden figuring out his issues from 2, and Maxey figuring out his issues vs the Celtics.
Paul Reed will in all likelihood start and get the majority of the minutes at Center. The Sixers go into the game as double-digit underdogs. Tip-off tonight is 7:30 pm in Boston. You can follow the game, with Tom McGinnis on the call, right here on The Fanatic. TNT has the coverage on the tv side.
