With the draft nearly 24 hours away, much of the talk in this city is surrounding what the Eagles will do. A large camp of fans want the Eagles to grab Bijan Robinson either at 10. Maybe later if they trade down. Others are dead set against drafting a RB, and want the Eagles to grab a player to bolster the defense. The defensive player whose name comes up the most, is Georgia’s Jalen Carter. A player whose talent is undeniable. But whose draft status is up in the air given legal troubles off the field. The other issue is that despite those issues, he may not make it to the eagles at 10.
But provided the Eagles are comfortable with him as a person, he is a player absolutely worth trading up for. There are not many elite D-Line prospects in the draft. There are many promising ones. But none who feel like as sure of a thing talent wise as Jalen Carter. The only other guys in that category are Tyree Wilson, and Will Anderson. Finding elite pass rushers is hard. It is even harder to find someone as gifted as him among Interior Linemen. After losing Javon Hargrave, there is a need for a pass rushing Defensive Tackle. Jalen Carter would be that for the Eagles.
Dave Zangaro joined The Best Show Ever this week, and he said that Jalen carter is the type of player he could see Howie Roseman trading up for.
“With Howie it starts with aggressiveness. We saw him in the last two drafts trade up to get his guys. It doesn’t mean that is what is going to happen. But I think it is first on his mind. A trade up is definitely possible… It depends on what players are there… The guy who stands out the most for me in a trade up situation is Jalen Carter… If he checks out (as far as character concerns go), he is a player who is worthy of a trade up. He is a special talent. That type of player at that position is harder to find than a really good edge rusher. So he would be at the top of the list.
Dave also went on to say how the Eagles could later use pick 30 to trade back and recoup whatever they had to trade away to move up and get him.
Players like Carter are not common. He could be a cornerstone for the eagles at one of the most valuable positions apart from QB. And as long as the Eagles can clear him from the off the field concerns, he is exactly the type of player worth giving up assets to trade up for.
