End Of Season Wrap Up With John Tortorella
The Flyers season is over. They missed the playoffs, fired their GM, and a multi-year rebuild looms. Starting with this off-season. What will the Flyers be doing? Will certain players be on the outs on account of the upcoming rebound? To discuss all that, and give his final thoughts on the season, John Tortorella joined The Best Show Ever once again.
One of the things John Tortorella said, was that there will be more pain ahead before this thing gets better…
“Where we are at as an organization, is a phase of losing. We are a 31-win hockey team. But I think we improved from the prior year. The biggest plus I got out of it is a lot of kids played. A number of them grew. I see the potential they could be a big part of the organization… We need to stay true. Take each step at a time. Not get antsy if you see something shiny out there that you want to buy… We are going to have more pain. I am just trying to be honest. There will be more pain next year.”
He also had some praise, kind of, for one Flyer who he thought took a big leap…
“The biggest leap for me, and I thought he was just awful when we started, was Ristolainen. He started moving his legs. Started understanding how we needed him to play. He is one of them.”
And while things admittedly look bad now, he did say he is confident in the direction they are going…
“I am not trying to paint a rosy picture here, because I cant. But we have some good pieces here to a foundation… We are jut going to try and stay the course. You have a group of guys who won’t skip any steps here. We are going to try and build it the right way.”
