Anthony discussed Embiid missing last night’s game, and why he is proud of Embiid for putting the team first in his Opening Diatribe this morning…
“People were looking forward to Jokic vs Embiid in the 2nd matchup. Remember the matchup here a couple of weeks ago where Joel dominated? The Sixers won, and this was the rematch. As you know, Joel has a calf that has been bothering him, and he doesn’t play. Right away it is like “Joel is ditching Jokic.” This is ridiculous. The Sixers’ priority is for Joel to be healthy. I am actually proud of Joel for not putting himself and the MVP award over being healthy.
It is the 3rd game in 4 nights. It’s in Denver where the altitude is an issue. I have no problem that he goes we just have to be ready for the playoffs. Everything is about the playoffs now. Doing whatever you can to get out of the 2nd round. We already know it is going to be difficult playing Boston without home court. Those two have to be healthy. That is the bottom line. Harden was a late scratch yesterday.
The League screwed up. They need to tweak the league and figure out how to make the regular season matter more. The NBA regular season has been rendered meaningless…
He has a calf strain. I want him to be healthy for the playoffs. Did I want to see him play last night? Yes. I wanted to see him play and dominate. But he is not ducking Jokic. That is absurd. He has to be healthy. This isn’t about awards or anything else. It’s the 3rd game in 4 nights on a road swing. They owe it to the fans to have a run in the playoffs. That means they have to be healthy…
But of course, the National Pundits make it out that Embiid is ducking Jokic. The last time they played, Embiid dominated… The truth of the matter is, as much as I would love for him to play, I need the Sixers to get out of the 2nd round… I don’t know what else besides it was the right decision not to play.”
