By the end of last season, Gardner Minshew was not the most popular man in Philadelphia. His performance filling in for Jalen Hurts for a couple of games late in the season left a lot to be desired. And to make it worse it almost cost the Eagles the 1 seed. He was decent vs the Cowboys, but a disaster vs the Saints. Of the many Eagles free agents, he was not one most Eagles fans were too keen on hanging onto. And it looks like they may get their way. Because the latest news is that Gardner Minshew could land with the Colts, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic.
Hearing Colts are looking into free agent QB Gardner Minshew. With the Shane Steichen connection ā they were together in Philly the last two years, with Minshew making four starts ā it makes sense.

Indianapolis seems to have a thing for taking people from Philly. First, it was former Eagles Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich. They hired him as their head coach. Then a few years later, they traded for former Eagles Qb Carson Wentz. A year later they signed another former Eagles Qb, Nick Foles. This offseason they hired another former Eagles Offensive Coordinator Shane Steichen. And now they may be taking one of our former QBs again.
Gardner Minshew spent the last two seasons with the Eagles. He has been Jalen Hurts backup for as long as Hurts has been the starter. But the Eagles may need to find a replacement. Ian Book is currently the next man up on the roster. But it feels unlikely the Eagles would go into the season with a backup who has no experience. Howie Roseman has shown time and time again that he highly values having a dependable backup QB. Whether it was Nick Foles, drafting Jalen Hurts behind Carson Wentz, Joe Flacco, or Gardner Minshew.
Expect the Eagles to bring someone else in behind Jalen Hurts. Names that could make sense include Marcus Mariota, Chase Daniel, and Teddy Bridgewater, among other names. Especially with a QB like Jalen Hurts who runs the ball a lot making him an injury risk.
