Tim McManus Talks Filling The Eagles Open Coordinator Jobs
All Eagles season, Tim McManus has joined The Best Show Ever once a week to give out a Mid-Week Report. And now that the season is over, he joined us one more time for a season wrap-up. Tim discussed what went wrong in the Super Bowl, the Eagles’ plans to replace both Coordinators, and their other off-season plans. Here is some of what Tim had to say.
On Brian Johnson Replacing Shane Steichen
“Brian Johnson, I think very highly of, and it looks like he is the one who is going to be promoted to OC. He has a really tight relationship with Jalen Hurts. It dates all the way back to when Hurts was a kid. The trust there is really strong… The philosophy is already intact. Johnson was one of the hottest names out there. I kept getting calls from people asking what I think of Brian Johnson. I got a very strong sense that he was in demand… It’s kind of a win that the eagles get to hold onto him. But Steichen did a great job here. Anytime you are removing talent from the coaching staff, that is tough to rebuild. That is going to be the charge of Sirianni and Howie Roseman in these next few weeks.”
On is Dennard Wilson Will Be the Next DC
“I’m not ready to put him as a favorite. They are going through that process right now. He is definitely the internal option. Really well respected within the building. And I think that he is an ascending coach who will be in that spot before long. Do the Eagles just elevate him and keep that continuity from a defensive system standpoint? I think that is a possible outcome here for sure.
But I think they will also be going through some interviews and seeing what they get. A couple of guys that have been mentioned have been Panther Linebackers coach Peter Hansen. Sean Desai, he’s a Vic Fangio disciple. Coached at Temple and Played at Temple. Was the Bears DC for a spell. Vance Joseph just lost his job in Arizona. He is a well-known, well-regarded defensive coach as well.
It doesn’t feel like a done deal one way or the other. But people in the building would be pretty happy, especially in that defensive backs room, if Dennard Wilson is promoted.”
