Torrey Smith Joins Anthony Gargano To Preview the Super Bowl
The Eagles are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since 5 years ago in 2018. And today Anthony Gargano talked to one of the members of that team, Torrey Smith. Smith had some key moments along the road to the Eagles Super Bowl, including a catch of the knee of Keanu Neal vs the Falcons. He talked to Anthony about his memories of that team, his love of Philly his thoughts on the current team, and how he thinks this Super Bowl will go. Here is what Torrey Smith had to say.
On What Makes Philly Fans Different
“The passion. I have had an opportunity to play for one of the larger fanbases in the 49ers. Everywhere you go across the country you are going to see 49ers fans. But larger doesn’t mean more passionate. That is not a knock to the 49er fanbase. It is not a knock to the Ravens. Those are great fanbases. But Philadelphia is different. I tell people that, and they ask what I mean. Everyone is all in. The majority of the people are cheering for the Eagles. When I was getting an Uber, and the Uber is listening to sports radio, that to me made me realize this is a completely different space.”
On What He Thinks of Jalen Hurts
“I am extremely proud of Jalen Hurts. I don’t think it is any secret that I have been a fan of Jalen ever since he is in college. When I watched him lose his starting spot, and handle it with grace. I want my son to be like that… But Jalen is a special cat. He has been there before and dealt with adversity. To watch him develop as a passer? He has always been a great leader, and he has really taken that next step. e did everything he needed to do to lead this time. To watch him in this position, it is unbelievable to watch.”
On the Match Up To Watch in This Game
“To me, the biggest matchup of this game is the defensive line of the Eagles, vs the offensive line of the Chiefs. The Eagles’ defense has been awesome. People cry and complain that they don’t blitz enough. You don’t have to blitz when you can rush 4. If they are able to take advantage, and able to get pressure with 4, that is going to be the difference in this game. If they aren’t, it is going to be a long game. Patrick Mahomes is able to make magic when he has time.
We saw this first hand vs the Bucs… And with the Eagles’ secondary, which is the best secondary that he has seen overall, if you are able to rush 4, I really like their chances there.”
