We have come to our final Mid-Week Report with Tim McManus. Because there is only one game left to play. So this time it is the Mid-Week Report, Super Bowl edition. What are Tim McManus’s final thoughts about this matchup? What are the storylines heading into this game? Which matchups could be the most important on game day? Here is what Tim McManus had to say.
On the Eagles Pass Rush vs Chiefs O-Line
“You’re going right to the heart of the matter for this matchup to me, and that is the offensive line for Kansas City vs the defensive pass rush for Philadelphia. We know how good Kansas City’s offense is, and we know how good Patrick Mahomes is. The one thing I was a little bit surprised to see, was that statistically, this has been the best pass-rush group on the offensive line in the entire NFL. They are number 1 in pass-rush protection. Which means that it is good on good. Mahomes has been protected better than anyone else in the NFL.
Then here comes to 70-sack Philadelphia Eagles’ defense. Sometimes I feel we gloss over that fact. 70 sacks in the regular season. The 3rd most ever. And we know the way that they took over that game again the 49ers. More specifically we know how Haason Reddick took that game over… We also know that Mahomes is hobbled. So they are going to have to figure out ways to get the ball out of the hands of Mahomes. Find ways to move him a little bit to make sure it is not just a straight pass rush coming at him in the middle of the pocket.
But we also know Andy Reid is very good at play design. This offense has been the very best offense in the NFL… So yea, that matchup is the most important one in this game.”
