The Anthony Gargano Show – Weekdays 10am – 2pm

Weekdays 10am-2pm

PHILADELPHIA, PA - JANUARY 21: DeVonta Smith #6 of the Philadelphia Eagles in action against the New York Giants during the NFC Divisional Playoff game at Lincoln Financial Field on January 21, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Eagles will face off with the Niners on Sunday in the NFC Championship round. And on the call for the game is Kevin Burkhardt from Fox. He joined The Anthony Gargano Show earlier today to preview the game. What are his thoughts on the Eagles? The matchups to watch? Here is what Kevin Burkhardt had to say when he joined Anthony.

On why many in the national media were down on the Eagles coming into the playoffs…

“People forgot how good they were before Hurts got injured… I think the last month skewed how people felt about Philadelphia. And I think there is a part where people feel they haven’t had the toughest of schedules. And to a degree, they didn’t have a schedule that was crazy difficult. But the reality is, they lost one game with Jalen Hurts. I don’t know what else you are supposed to do. To me, they are a great team, and it is going to be a great game on Sunday.”

On Brock Purdy vs the Eagles’ pass rush

“I know obviously, it is tough to play in Philly, and that will be a challenge. But I think the pressure on him from the pass rush will be the challenge. I thought Dallas’ speed on defense gave them a lot of trouble. Because the Niners had been running all over people and doing what they want. And Philly is similar. With their pass rushers they have plenty of speed, and their back end is better too.”

On the Eagles Run Game vs Niners Run D

“To me, the matchup I am dying to see is the Eagles and Jalen Hurts and all these run options they have vs that number 1 Run D. I think the beauty of the Eagles before Hurts got injured was they could beat you any way they wanted. If they wanted to run for 300 yards and Hurts runs for 150, they could do it. If they wanted to throw for 300 yards and get AJ Brown 3 TDs, they could do it. I am fascinated to see which way they choose this week. The Niners are great against the run. But I don’t think they have faced a running team like this.”
