I wanted to offer a little assistance to the local fan base as this week many of us will have to navigate some Giants fans this week. This isn’t another one of those trite columns where one city makes fun of the other. I love New York City and visit often and I also truly respect the Giants franchise and their storied history in the modern era. The venom I feel at times towards Cowboys “Walmart Fans” who couldn’t find Dallas on a map doesn’t exist with the Giants. That doesn’t mean you don’t need to come equipped with some facts to quiet down the mouthiest of Giants fans. Please, allow me to assist.
3,632 days
That is the amount of days between the Giants Super Bowl win in early 2012 and yesterdays upset win over the Vikings. As you could go back and read I expected the Giants to dispatch of the Vikings so it wasn’t exactly an upset. In the same period of time that passed between the Giants playoff wins the Eagles have appeared in 8 playoff games, winning four of them.
12-28
That is the record between the 2 teams over the last 20 years, The Eagles have won 70% of the meetings. It hasn’t truly looked like a rivalry in a long time.
2-11
The last 13 meetings have even been more lopsided. The Eagles have won 85% of the more recent meetings.
Ask yourself what unit or position group of the Giants is better than the Eagles?
The answer is simple, nowhere. The Eagles are better on both lines of scrimmage. Few of the Giants players could crack the starting 22 of the Eagles.
This Year with both teams trying to win
The Giants circled the early December showdown vs the Eagles as a referendum on their legitimacy. I’ve seen better legitimacy claims on The Maury Povich Show. The Eagles dominated the Giants on their home field and terrorized Daniel Jones. Unlike the Vikings, the Eagles tossed the Giants offensive line aside like rag dolls. If they hadn’t called off the dogs they might have scored 60.
WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO HEAR ALL WEEK…
Remember what we did those years with Eli Manning!
Sorry to break it to you, but even the dramatically mediocre Eli Manning who managed to win 2 Super Bowl titles was dominated by the Eagles. Daniel Jones has taken huge strides and is deserving of more respect. Yesterday was praise worthy but Saturday night might be cringe worthy.
Week 18 gave us a blue print!
Stop the nonsense. The Eagles obviously played a completely different game plan than the one them employee when trouncing the Giants earlier. Just refer back to the game both teams attacked with full vigor. It was over before it started.
We know how to win championships, it’s what we do!
Expect a heavy dose of this as Giants fans get out their DVD’s and try to convince themselves that this team resembles those teams. Don’t ruin it for them. Nod a lot and convince them that their past playoff wins matter. Humor them. Fact is, no one on this team has anything to do with accomplishments of the past.
Enjoy the fun of the build up and respect your opponent. Just understand that you have the advantage in the matchup. With that advantage comes great Eagles expectations! We will get to that tomorrow!
