Dave Wannstedt Joins The Show to Preview Eagles vs Bears
The Eagles play the Bears on Sunday. And to get some insight into that matchup, “The Best Show Ever?” talked to ex-NFL Coach and Analyst for NBC Sports Chicago Dave Wannstedt. Dave discussed what we can expect from the Bears, the play of Justin Fields, and the issues with the Bears’ defense. Here is what Dave Wannstedt had to say.
On His Take on This Bears Team
“I really like where the Bears are at. Even though with 3 wins that doesn’t make much sense. But when you look at this team compared to the last several, this hasn’t been a team that beats themselves as much. You look at the turnovers, at penalties, the big plays. They haven’t given up much of that. They just haven’t been good enough.
The one thing I do know is going to happen, the Eagles will find out about their run defense. The Beras are one of the better teams in the NFL at running the football. Is Justin Fields part of that? Yes he is. How much will he be this week? We don’t know. He is practicing, he is going to start. I don’t think he will be like he was earlier in the year where he was the main guy. They will get him 8 to 10 carries. But they are going to run the ball. Because their passing game protection wise is concerning.”
On The Bears Defense
“Up front is their issue. If you look at their secondary… you’ve got 4 high draft-pick players . That is the strength of the Bears’ defense. Unfortunately, they have a very difficult time getting to the passer. I think they have had 1 sack in the last 6 games. Earlier in the year, when they wanted to bring pressure, they would blitz. They would bring a safety or a linebacker… Whether they do that? I dont know. They have gotten away from that the past few weeks.
The Bears’ defense is right now a bend but don’t break defense, because they don’t have good enough players in the front 7. The backend is pretty good. You watch how those guys covered the Packers, there weren’t a whole lot of open WRs.”
