Barrett Brooks Thinks This May Be The Best Eagles Team He Has Seen
The Eagles continue to play at a high level. But is this the best Eagles team we have ever seen? Barrett Brooks thinks it could be. He joined “The Best Show Ever?” earlier today to break down the win, and what he loves about this Eagles team. What makes Jalen Hurts so special? Is Jonathan Gannon redeeming himself after last year? Barrett Brooks discussed that and more. Here is some of what he had to say.
On This Being Perhaps the Best Eagles Team He Has Seen…
“This may be the best team I have ever seen wear the Eagles uniform. They are so balanced. They bring everything to the table, they don’t lack anything. The way they play, it is unbelievable how easy it is for him to execute. That is the biggest thing right there. Offensively, pick your poison as a defensive coordinator. How are you going to stop them? Are you gonna stop the run? The pass? Qb? The RBs? Tight End? The WRS? What do you do to stop this offense? And by the way, this is the best offensive line in the NFL. It is hard to get a beat on what you can do to stop this offense.
And on defense, they are built well in the trenches now. They can stop the run and the pass with the guys outside. The only thing we lack right now is another safety.”
On What Makes Jalen Hurts Special…
“He forces himself to go out and be the most prepared athlete on the field. We all know that the Qb position is the number one position in sports. He takes that personally. He understands that where he goes is where his team goes. So he is going to be the first one in and the last one to leave. He is going to watch every piece of film. And he works his butt off to go out and be fundamentally sound… He has become a savant of the game. Understanding what he needs to be to make this team successful. That is the best thing that he brings to the game.”
On Jonathan Gannon’s Performance This Year…
“I enjoy that he takes the pieces he has on that team, and places them where they need to be. Everybody wants him to blitz. Well, he is not a guy who conceptually blitzes. But he blitzes enough… And they are always blitzes you will see at the beginning of the games. Just to figure out what he can do to fluster whoever is under center…
If you take away last year, the numbers that he is producing right now, are some of the best in the Eagles’ history… But we can’t get past what we saw last year. Gannon has been a great coordinator this year. He is using the pieces that Howie Roseman got him. And now he can stop the run. That is the only thing they really couldn’t do. Now they can stop the run consistently. And he has found a way to hide the Safety position with CJ Gardner Johnson out.”
