The Flyers lost their ninth game in a row tonight as the Penguins won the battle of Pennsylvania 4-1. The Flyers came out strong, but as soon as the Penguins put up their first goal halfway through the 1st period; all the Flyers’ momentum was lost. The crowd is always loud and filled with a lot of “boo’s” per usual when Crosby comes to town.
Crosby was able to extend the Penguins lead with only 30 seconds remaining in the 1st with his typical deflection goal. Hayes was able to put up one goal for the orange and black but it was a Pittsburgh dominated game.

Philadelphia has endured a lot of injuries early on this season. Travis Konecny is expected to be out 10-14 days with an upper body injury. Wade Allison has approximately 2-3 weeks due to a strained hip pointer. Atkinson still remains on a week-to-week basis. Coots has another 3-4 months. JVR has about 6 weeks before he can return. With many key players not able to play it’s evident that this doesn’t look like an NHL caliber team on ice.
After the game Torts was short has he didn’t have much to say. Clearly, Tortorella has been around the league long enough to know that he is coaching a minor league team due to all the injuries. He knows more than anybody how frustrating this station is and is looking ahead to tomorrow in Long Island.

The Players themselves seemed optimistic about the Islanders tomorrow. When asking Hayes about the lack of motivation he replied with, “When you lose eight or nine games in a row I don’t think the motivation should be found. It should be there.”

Looking Ahead
- @ Islanders Saturday
- Vs. Islanders Tuesday
- Vs Lighting Thursday
The Next three games for the Flyers will not be easy, but hopefully they’re able to take at least one of the games against the Islanders. The “streak” doesn’t seem like a vocal point to the team themselves; but if the Flyers lose tomorrow it will be a double digit losing streak that they had multiple times last season.
Puck drop is at 7:30pm tomorrow in Long Island.
