After struggling against the run for a few weeks in a row, Howie had seen enough. He went out and added Linval Joseph, and Ndamukong Suh to the Defensive Line. And to break down what those guys bring to the Eagles, and how they can fix that problem, “The Best Show Ever?” talked to Barrett Brooks from NBC Sports Philly. See how Barrett Brooks feels about those signings, and more, below.
On The Additions of Suh and Joseph
Just like you have 3rd down rushers, these guys are going to be 1st and 2nd down. We’ve always had the achilles heel of first and second down being the worst down. When you look at Gannon’s defense, 1st and 2nd down kills them. That’s why it is so hard to play on 3rd down. Because it’s always third and manageable. You can only have success on 3rd down when it’s 3rd and 10, or 3rd and 8. Those are when you can step up and send the blitz. That is when we flourish.
Well, in the past two and half weeks they have been having success running to the ball on this team on first down… They need someone in the middle of that defense to stop everything. That is why Davis was such a great find for us in the first round. When he is in there, it stops a lot of running in between the tackles. So with those two being there… Imagine having Davis in the middle, Suh on one side, and Joseph on the other. That’s about 1000 lbs of beef in the middle of your defense. Do you think teams are running in between the tackles then? Nah. Do you think that TJ Edward and Kyzir White can now go and make plays? Yes.
I have to say Howie does it again. Because those guys can be very efficient on first and second down for this team.
