Eagles Lose The Game And Dallas Goedert
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert is expected to be out for an extended period of time after suffering a shoulder injury in Monday night’s loss to the Washington Commanders.
This is a huge blow to the Eagles’ offense as Goedert – looked at as one of the top tight end’s in the game – is also a favorite target of quarterback Jalen Hurts. The talented pass catcher is second on the team in receiving yards with 544, only trailing star wide receiver A.J. Brown who leads with 725. Goedert is third on the team in receptions with 43. The fifth-year player has played in all nine games this season and finally got the chance to be the full-time starter in year five with longtime Eagle Zach Ertz – who was in front of him on the depth chart — now manning the position in Arizona for the Cardinals.
The injury occurred on the much-talked-about play early in the fourth quarter with the Birds driving the field while trailing, 26-21. Goedert caught a pass for a short gain of two yards to Philadelphia’s 33-yard line. But, as Goedert was being brought down by two Washington defenders, they caused a fumble that was recovered by the Commanders. The outrage came from the Eagles and fans side because of a no-call by the officials as one of the Washington players had a hold of Goedert’s face mask, twisting his head while the ball was being punched out. When Goedert was brought to the ground, he fell on his shoulder causing him to miss the rest of the game and now extended time with eight games remaining on the schedule.
Rookie Grant Calcaterra (one reception for 40 yards this season) and second-year man Jack Stoll ( four receptions for 49 yards) will now be called upon to take the snaps at the position. Calcaterra is known more for his pass-catching abilities than his blocking, and the opposite for Stoll. How much will they be able to help in both areas together? Will we see more of wide receiver Zach Paschall? Only time will tell and they’ll need to figure it out starting next Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
