You would think that an 8-0 start would afford the Eagles a bit of breathing room. Your thinking would then be incorrect. Despite being the most dominant NFL team over the first half of this season, the other contenders have been relentless in their pursuit of the Birds. It makes tonight’s game more important than expected.
The Bills loss to the Vikings at home changes everything for the Eagles. They are now just one half game back of the Eagles pending the outcome of tonight’s game vs the Commanders. I’m not alone to think that this would have been loss number two for the Vikings. It wasn’t. They now have won 7 games in a row after losing in Week 2 on Monday Night Football in Philadelphia. Beating the Bills on the road gives them immediate pedigree and incredible momentum. It also makes them dangerous in the battle for the top seed. You can continue to tell me not to take Kirk Cousins seriously, but I’ll continue to ignore that.
The Cowboys traveled to Green Bay in what could have been the “final nail in the coffin” of the 2022 Packers season game. Aaron Rodgers had other plans. The Packers played their best game of the season. An overtime regular season classic with the Packers pulling the upset and sending Dallas to their third loss. This helps create a bit of space between the Birds and the Boys!
The Giants are being constantly overlooked and it’s just the way they like it. Truth be told I expected them to be UNDER the season total of 7.5 wins that was posted by Las Vegas. At 7-2 they should easily cash those OVER tickets. Brian Daboll has his team playing impressive, smart football. I still don’t believe they could end up with more wins than the Eagles, but with two matchups between the clubs remaining they will definitely stand in their way.
The Vikings host the Cowboys next Sunday and it is now a game where Eagles fans will be rooting for their division rivals to pull off the big upset. It seems sacrilegious but we will need a little gift from someone to keep the Vikings from breathing down their necks the rest of the way.
This is what makes tonight’s Eagles game tonight so important. Lots of drama will unfold if this team trips up just once. The Commanders don’t have the offensive firepower to win a shoot out, but their defense most certainly could provide a very stiff challenge. Last time out the Commanders only scored 8 points, after the Eagles had already put that game out of reach. They will need another big showing tonight to sweep the season series and to once again lead the Giants by 2 games and the Cowboys by 3 games in the division.
Do not overlook the Commanders tonight Eagles. The road to a division title seems a little clearer by the day. The Eagles continue winning and they will have plenty of time to set up their playoff plans. The Vikings demise is their number one worry.
