Flyers

By: Haley Taylor Simon

The Flyers went on their second road trip of the season. The orange and black took a train up to New York to start the trip off against the Rangers. With a scoreless 60 minutes the game carried into a short lived overtime as the Rangers took the two points. Hart was outstanding in net and it was a back and fourth game between the two Metropolitan teams. The Flyers at least were able to walk away with a point which would be their 3rd game of the season heading into overtime.

Down in Toronto a brutal awakening occurred as the Flyers faced their first major loss of the season as the Leafs destroyed the Flyers 5-2.  While the Flyers are familiar to facing adversity as majority of the games they won they’ve initially trailed in; this wasn’t the case. Maple Leafs captain, Tavares, gained his 11th career hat trick which secured any possibilities of the Flyers making a comeback.  Sandstrom was in-between the pipes still looking for his fist victory of the season.

Sandstrom held his own during training camp and deserved the spot of being Hart’s backup; just an unfortunate couple games where the offense wasn’t putting up goals which isn’t purely on the goalie.

Reunions in sports are always interesting, but when facing former captain and beloved player, Giroux, it called for a must watch game. The game opened as Ottawa native Giroux gained his 300th career goal against his former teaming giving the Senators a 1-0 lead.

Hayes and MacEwen were the two scorers for Philadelphia giving them a 2-1 victory over the Senators. Hart had another phenomenal game with 31 saves.

Looking back at Hart’s past five games it’s no doubt he’s been keeping Philadelphia alive. Is he the most underrated player on the team? Probably. The Flyers ended their 3 game roadtrip gaining three points and climbing up in the standings in 3rd place in the Metro with 14 points overall.

Flyers host the Blues Tuesday for a 7pm puck drop.
