Larry Bowa Predicts the Phillies in 5 Over the Padres
Larry Bowa has been nailing his predictions so far with Anthony Gargano. We had him on before the Cardinals series, and he said that the Phillies would sweep. Then we had him on before Game 3 in the Braves, and he said the Phillies would win both games at home to close out the series. And now we had him on again to discuss the Phillies-Padres series. Was he as confident as he was with the Cardinals and Braves series? Here is what Larry Bowa had to say with Anthony earlier today.
His prediction for the Series
“I’ve got Phillies in 5. I have them winning the first two out there. Nola and Wheeler. I just don’t see that offense for San Diego hitting those guys. There are two guys in the lineup, Soto and Machado. You can pitch around those two guys. Nobody else in that lineup really scares you.
There are a lot of guys in that lineup that our two right-handers can dissect with the stuff they got. I think they are going to be low-scoring games. But I also think we have enough guys in the lineup to get some big hits. And I haven’t seen Wheeler have a bad game. Even when he has a bad game, he keeps you in the game. So I am calling for the Phillies to win two there. San Diego might sneak one in here. But I don’t think we are going to have to go back to the West Coast.”
On Facing Yu Darvish Tonight
“I think we should have the same approach that we had with Fried. This guy has 5 or 6 different pitches. There is no way you can sit on all of them, you have to sit on something… If he is all over the place in the first inning, let’s make him work. If he is throwing strikes, let’s go at him. I think it is going to be a matter of what they see in the first couple of innings…
He is a guy you cant spot two strikes. He has too many pitches. And he can get them all over when he is on. If he is not on, then you can sit on some pitches. But if he is on you are going to have to get him early. He is a real good pitcher. The first 3 guys in their staff, they are legit. Even Snell. If Snell is throwing strikes he is nasty. And Musgrove has great stuff.”
On Both Team’s Bullpens
“The thing I am shocked at is San Diego’s bullpen. They have been pitching lights out. And I know our bullpen with Alavardo and Seranthony, have been dealing. The key to both teams, your starters have to get to 6, and maybe 7. And then it is going to be a battle of the bullpens.”
