RANDOM THOUGHTS
- The Eagles (3-0) start has people dreaming about the Super Bowl. What has been incredible has been that their defense, which was suspect going into this year, has dominated the opposition. They have the largest percentage of three and outs in the NFL. Jonathan Gannon has taken himself off the hot seat and is trying to ascend to a throne. He is using every new tool in his arsenal and has quietly told his critics to stick it. It took a while, but we now see why Jonathan Gannon was such a hot commodity in Head Coaching searches. The Eagles would best benefit from his expertise while they can. He has been clearly rewriting his “Philadelphia story”
- The Phillies current struggles epitomize the last 4 Septembers. At (3-8) in their last 11 games this team continues to live up to their reputation. They aren’t finishers. They never answer the bell with the season on the line. There are common denominators. Those are many of the star players who are expected to be huge contributors and their new manager. Rob Thomson has done a great job beating horrible teams. What he hasn’t done is manage to change the culture of September. This team is backing in to the post season, unless they dial up efforts like their past Septembers over their last 9 games. Strangely they have improved but the results look eerily similar.
- My pre-season MLB bets are coming in. I bet the Phillies over 82.5 and I will cash that one. I had a small wager on them to win the NL East, that’s a loser. I still can cash in if they qualify for the post season. This year has been a very limping to the finish line experience.
- I did it again. I put my money where my mouth is on the BetPARX app. Yesterday I placed my season bets on the 76ers. I bet them to win the Eastern Division, the Eastern Conference and for Joel Embiid to be the MVP. I couldn’t get myself to bet them to win the Championship. Not yet.
- Philly Sports Trips is a client. I’m saying that up front. I’m also telling you that I’ve traveled to road games with fan bases via local travel companies for over 2 decades. Philly Sports Trips does an amazing job and last weekend I accompanied over a thousand fans to see the team battle in Washington. The bus trips and tailgate parties were a blast. If you haven’t tried it before, do it next time.
