There was only one option with what to pull from the Audio Vault today. Andrew did not have to dig very deep into it, because the audio he played today came from last night. The Eagles smacked the Vikings around on the way to a 24-7 win. Hurts was perfect. The defense was near perfect. And to keep the celebration going Andrew played all the highlights in today’s Audio Vault. Here is the lineup from today’s vault…
Hurts First TD Run
Andrew said it in the show, and it rings true. The Jalen Hurts Anytime TD bet is a lock. He is deadly in the red zone. He scored his 2nd rushing TD in 5 quarters on the opening drive of the game.
Slay Breaks Up Pass to Justin Jefferson
Don’t call him Darius! It was s a big night for Slay who had Jefferson locked up all game. But it all started with him getting a big pass breakup on the Vikings’ first drive to force a punt.
Quez Watkins Goes 53 Yards
Hurts deep ball has been an area of contention. He silenced those critics early in this one. Hurts and Quez Watkins opened up the 2nd quarter with a 53-yard bomb. Quez made several big plays last year but somehow managed to miss the endzone on most of them. But that wasn’t in question last night. He was WIDE open. And the connection between him and Hurts made it 14-0.
Hurts Fights For the End Zone
Hurts second rushing TD of the night may have been the most impressive run of his career. It looked like he was going out of bounds. Then suddenly he cut back in and took it another dozen yards. Those 600lb squats were put to use when he churned his legs to fight through contact and into the end zone. It was a jump off the couch type of moment.
Hurts Drives Down for an FG Before Half
Even if it was only 3 pts, this may have been the most franchise QB moment from Hurts all night. He took them 75 yards in 1:21 to get into field goal range and make it a 3-score game. It was a professional drive. The type you see star QBs make late in the half or at the end of games. In this game maybe it didn’t make a huge difference. But now we know that he is more than capable in a 2-minute drill.
The 3 Picks
The Eagles picked off Kirk Cousins 3 times. And each one kept points off the board. The Vikings were driving to open the 2nd half. They had a chance to make it a 10 pt game. Instead, Darius Slay snags a pick on a Justin Jefferson target and kept the Vikings off the board. Shortly after that, the Eagles were attempting an FG, and it was blocked, leading to a return all the way down to the Eagles’ 30. That easily could have been a momentum swing. But Avonte Maddox came up with the leaping interception to again keep the Vikings off the board. And finally, Darius Slay got his 2nd pick of the night in the RedZone after the Vikings forced a turnover.
The Defense came up big three times in the second half. Not just getting stops, but making plays to keep the Vikings at 7 points. It was the type of stuff elite defenses do.
