As a show we were all complaining last week how we don’t love Prime Time Eagle games. I got slammed in at least 5 emails telling me how off base I was! I guess I should have declared it as more of a preference, one that might be biased by more 4am wake up call! There is so much to love about football under the lights! Here are my favorites…
The Top 10 Things I love about prime time Eagles games
10)The matchup always seems to have been thought out to have a little more juice. Tonight is a matchup of 2 teams expected to be stepping up in the NFC this year, with some bad blood between them!
9)The fact that the entire country is talking about my team and the buildup of coverage throughout the day is featuring the Eagles! I love hearing voices other than our locals breaking down our team and offering their insights.
8)And yet…I love pointing out how the national media will run with storylines that are clearly out dated or flat out incorrect. It always allows me to better understand which national voices work hard and who just mails it in.
7)Feeling the energy from the community as a build up to the game. From a stop at the Wawa or your local deli, you see the team colors displayed and the connection even among strangers is real.
6)The fact that so many arrive in the light just to leave in the dark. I’ve lived in another city where a prime time NFL game was met with a relative yawn. This city cares and making. Day of it will be the norm.
5)The memories of prime time games of the past. Most of all that I remember a time when the product of Eagles football wasn’t considered prime time worthy. A generation of Eagles fans has known nothing else. That’s awesome!
4)It’s always cooler at night. You can layer up with a tee shirt under your Eagles hoodie or a thermal under your replica jersey. The story behind what people wear has always fascinated me.
3)It allows me to better understand the true depth of the Eagles roster. If an Eagles player can’t handle the brightest lights, I want them gone and not a part of the plan going forward. I wonder who that might apply to?
2)The parking lot at the Linc and surrounding areas. You hear the sounds and buzz. You smell the grills churning out local delicacies. It’s electric.
1)There is nothing like the energy of a national game under the lights. That feeling sometimes dissipates quickly depending on the play of the Birds, but the opening adrenaline is amazing.
