The Best Show Ever?

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - MARCH 05: Cam Atkinson #89 of the Philadelphia Flyers looks on after scoring during the third period against the Chicago Blackhawks at Wells Fargo Center on March 05, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Flyers season is approaching. And today marked the start of Flyers camp. To get the scoop on this Flyers team under new head coach John Tortorella, “The Best Show Ever?” brought on Flyers Winger Cam Atkinson. Cam was previously coached by Torts, and was able to bring some inside perspective on the type of coach he will be, and shared what fans can expect to change this year with the team. But first, he issued an apology to fans for what happened last year.

“I want to apologize on behalf of all the players. This year is a new year. Bringing in a new coach, new life. It’s going to be a totally different team, regardless of whos in our lineup. We are going to play the right way. We’re going to play hard.  And we are going to win a lot more hockey games this year.”

And then when asked to give some insight into Tortorella’s coaching style, this is what he had to say…

“A great guy. I’ve got to know him. He was my coach for 6 years. He is a guy who kept in touch with me, and calls me all the time to see how my family is doing. I get to see the sides of Torts that no one else gets to see. He is one of the most genuine guys I have had the chance to become friends with. He is going to hold us accountable and push us to our limits. And that is what our team needs… He protects his players… He wants to win just as badly as us… At the end of the day, he cares. And as a player that is all you want from a coach.”

And he also gave an assurance that they would play much tougher defense this year…

“He is a firm believer in being hard-nosed in the blue area…We are going to be playing a lot harder in front of Carter. That is blocking a lot of shots, and eliminating all those 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opportunities that teams got last year. We play a hard defense, which leads to good offense.”
