The 10 Dumbest Things I saw on Eagles Twitter this weekend

Philadelphia has some of the greatest fans in the country. It’s also important to note that less than 20% of Americans use a Twitter account. So it’s a vocal minority, made up of a bunch of people that think they are really smart (like me) who share their opinions on sports, life and anything else. It also doesn’t require you to consume it, unless you are in my business and want to hear from a portion of the fan base. I love it and appreciate the contributions.

There is always something about the most vocal small portion of any grouping on social media. They paint an entire fan base or political affiliation as having one point of view. The average Philly fan or sports radio host isn’t of one mind or one opinion, but painting with the broad brush makes no sense.

Repeat after me, Twitter isn’t real life. It is for entertainment purposes only. Consume it with a skeptical eye. I believe  sports radio should be discussed  the same way. Expecting local sports radio to be Pom Pom shakers for the home team after a win like that shouldn’t be a source of debate in my opinion, it should be soundly rejected. Teams like the Eagles having their own media and coverage is constantly critiqued for not being genuine. No one should expect independent sports media to just ignore a mediocre performance. Objectivity still matters.

My Top 10 List - “Dumbest things I saw on Eagles Twitter on Opening Week”

10. “Here we go again” - The fan who rejects any level of expectation on the Eagles begins to panic in the first quarter of the opener. That fan never lets it breathe or develop. In a few weeks, fans will remember the win more than the style points.

9. “This looks exactly like last year” - In fact, it doesn’t. It looks like a far improved talent roster that needs some time to develop.

8.  “Cue the sports radio hosts calling out the lack of work in the pre-season” - Yep, cue it up. They had numerous pre-snap penalties, couldn’t get plays in from the sidelines and ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. Yes, it’s an issue. You want it ignored. I’ll call that absolute malpractice.

7. “God forbid anyone be happy after a win” - Nobody who is an Eagles fan is happy when the Eagles lose. Nobody in local media prefers the Eagles lose.

6. “There is nothing worse than an Eagles win” - The sunshine and lollipops crowd that prefers to just hear the good things are obviously clamoring for an alternative. Spoiler Alert, there is a reason that it’s not out there except on the teams own coverage. It doesn’t work.

5. “Bad performances are what you prefer in sports radio because it means more angry callers” - When a sports radio show depends on callers to be their content that may be true. The better quality shows don’t.

4. “It’s better for sports radio when the Eagles are bad” - False…again. There is nothing better for business than a team playing great on a run to a title. Rick Pitino perpetrated this nonsense decades ago and some still repeat it.

3. “A game like today is why I hate Philly sports radio” - Well considering you are tweeting about it BEFORE you hear it, you obviously love it. You remember it. You consume it. Nothing better than the internet critic who tells you why they hate a product that they obsess on. You are appreciated.

2. “Jalen Hurts can’t get any credit at all, even when they score 38 points” - They had no passing touchdowns, Devonta Smith didn’t catch a pass and was hardly targeted, he left the pocket far too quickly on quite a few occasions. There was plenty to praise, but plenty to work on.

1. “All that matters is the win” - That’s a great sentiment, if you have no expectations on your season. If you’re expected to do nothing, all that matters is winning. When you are expected to win a division title and win a post season game, the way you play matters.

Staff Predictions: Week 1 Eagles vs. Lions

Its FINALLY here! The Eagles season is upon us and that means a new season of score predictions. The staff goes head to head to prove which member of the staff REALLY knows football. Because picking the scores correctly is the ultimate sign of knowledge.....everyone knows that....anyway...

Jamie Lynch was champion last year. "The Bro" couldnt be stopped. But the staff will either all go 1-0 or 0-1 because in a rare case, they are all on the same page.

Pat Egan

Egan didnt have a great 2021. Which isnt surprising after he picked Travis Fulgham to have 1000 yards. But he likes the Birds this weekend

Jamie Lynch

Jamie was the BEST at predictions last season on the staff. Which is a great sign for the Eagles

Bob Cooney

John Kincade

The "Ciunas" thinking Goff wont even get 2 touchdowns against this Eagles defense. Which would be awesome

Anthony Gargano

As if there was a doubt which was the Cuz was leaning

Jen Scordo

image9.jpeg

If Jen is correct, then this will end up being a nail biter but the Eagles will come out on top

Hunter Brody

image8.jpeg

Hunter doesnt agree with Jen. Thinks the Eagles roll and have an easy day

Ricky Bo

image10.jpeg

Bo Knows baseball but he also knows football. And what he knows is the Eagles will roll on Sunday

Tyrone Johnson

image11.jpeg

11 point win is a nice way to start the season. Tyrone's prediction is one we can get behind

Devon thinks the Eagles win this one and you can hear his reason why as he hosts the Fanatic pregame show
