What’s Brewing With Jen- Levitating Trains

What was brewing with Jen Scordo today? As they do every day on “The Best Show Ever?” Jen reported on three weird and interesting stories. Today she got into stories…

Maglev Train

TSURU, JAPAN – DECEMBER 03: A magnetic levitation (maglev) train conducts a test run past Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center on December 3, 2021 in Tsuru, Japan. The 95 billion USD magnetic levitation (maglev) train line linking Tokyo with Nagoya is being held in limbo after the governor of Shizuoka Prefecture refused to allow construction for what will be one of the world’s fastest trains. Concerns were raised that construction work could affect the volume of water on the Oigawa river which runs through the prefecture.

What was brewing with Jen Scordo today? As they do every day on "The Best Show Ever?" Jen reported on three weird and interesting stories. Today she got into stories about a levitating train, a family finding a rare purple pearl in their dinner, and some footage from the perspective of a dolphin.

The Navy strapped cameras on 6 dolphins they have trained to identify underwater mines. And they discovered some weird things about the way these sea mammals hunt. Notably, they captured footage of the dolphins attacking and eating venomous sea snakes. Dolphins had been witnessed messing with these types of snakes before, but eating them was unusual behavior.

That is not all they discovered. They got to see the way dolphins communicate when hunting. The way they use all their senses to hunt their prey, and more. You can read about all the things the study produced in the article below.

A Levitating Train Powered By Magnets Not Electricity

China is known for its Maglev trains. They use electromagnets to propel trains at high speeds. But now they have unveiled the next step in magnet-powered trains. Because now they have a train powered by normal magnets, without the need for as much electricity. The trains levitate off a rail 33 ft in the air. The magnets create a propelling force, that can move the train at speeds as high as 50mph.

The feat of engineering is possible thanks to China's plethora of rare Earth elements. China is home to an estimated 40% of such elements. These elements can significantly increase the life of magnets.

Man Finds a Rare Purple Pearl in his Clam Dish

This may be the open case of finding someone unexpected on your dinner plate, and it being a good thing. A Phoenixville man was eating clams when he chewed down on something hard. he expected to pull a shell out of his mouth. But instead, he found a rare purple pearl. The chances of this happening are slim. One 1 in 5000 quohog clams produce a clam. The chances of that pearl being purple are 1 in 100,000. Then the chance of that pearl serving the process of harvesting, shucking, and cooking the clam are slim.

The man spent $14 on the clam dish. But the pearl he found in it could be worth anywhere between $600 and $16000. He said he will get it appraised, but is not sure if he will sell it.
