It is my long awaited return to the Jersey Shore this weekend for a few days with my wife and daughter. For me it will be my first true Jersey Shore vacation in around 2 decades. For my girls it will be their first. I’d like nothing more than to see them fall in love with “going down the shore” and being able to make this an annual event. I’m wondering how much success I’m going to have.
A trip to the Jersey Shore is a truly unique experience and certainly different than what they have experienced down South. A Florida beach trip doesn’t tend to be a rental house and the beaches are much different. People think a beach trip is a little less special if you can’t drive on it. I am just getting very nostalgic for it all in anticipation.
I remember my childhood vacations to a hotel called The Madrid in Wildwood Crest. We went there after years staying at the Gaslight or The Lurae at 7th and Surf. I enjoyed getting to know Ocean City in the 80’s on Brighton Place, then college summers in Sea Isle City. Going back it’s hard to explain to the girls why they need to embrace this. If you didn’t grow up here can you truly appreciate all the amazing experiences?
I can’t wait to walk the boardwalks at night. I love strolling the beach as the sun is setting. I’m a pool guy so the ocean breeze at a pool is pretty amazing. Will it be what I remember or different?
What do I need to see and more importantly what would make them fall in love with it?
