If you’re familiar with my on-air ramblings, I’ve been begging the Phillies to be the aggressor and make a move in the trade market for 3 weeks now. For once in my life, I would love (for better or worse) the Phillies to be the first team to make a move as opposed to letting the market take shape. The Braves made 4 moves last year within a week of devastating injuries to Ronald Acuna Jr., they didn’t wait until the deadline. Basically after a week of watching the Harper-less Phillies offense, it just didn’t feel right. It felt like they were being successful but you really couldn’t figure out how they were doing it because outside of Kyle Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins, it wasn’t tallying up. There were holes all over the lineup, yet they were winning. Well, being a Phillies fan my entire life, I knew it wasn’t going to last. It’s the Phillies pessimist in me. This past weekend’s series with the Chicago Cubs might’ve brought things back to reality. While only one game out of the wild card spot still, I’m not sure how much longer they can wait to make a move.

The Phillies need help. Probably in a couple areas, mainly starting pitching and possibly center field upgrades. Jean Segura is about to begin a minor league rehab assignment and can return to the big club as soon as August 3rd. There’s no doubt he will help upon his return, he’s one of the teams best overall hitters and a top of the lineup guy who can bring some stability at worst. Bryce Harper is allegedly ahead of schedule in his rehab and hopefully can return to the lineup by late August. Both will be shots of energy to this team but they can’t afford to wait any longer with this flailing offense.

Phillies Trade Deadline Targets – Pitchers

I’m aware that you need two to tango and the other team has to agree to the trade, but it’s past the point of twiddling your thumbs. Get out there and find that dog (Billy Madison joke minus the curse). Dave Dombrowski, this team needs help and can’t wait around much longer. Only one game out of the wild card spot but with so many holes in this lineup, it’s time to make it happen. Go be the aggressor. Over-pay if you must. This team needs to make the playoffs.
