One big time free agent will be off the board once NHL free agency officially opens on Wednesday at noon. Former Flyers Captain Claude Giroux will sign with the Ottawa Senators. This per TSN's Bob McKenzie. The deal is for 3 years at $6.5 mill AAV.

This isnt a shocking move. Giroux hails from Hearst Ontario where the closest big city is Ottawa. So in a way, this is a homecoming for Giroux. Giroux has often been linked to Ottawa ass both he and his wife look at Ottawa as home. Now Giroux will lace em up for the Sens.

Giroux was a franchise icon for the Flyers and last season he eclipsed the 1000 game mark with the team. He was then traded at the deadline to Florida for forward Owen Tippett and a future 1st round pick. The deal was made in an effort to put Giroux on a contender for a Stanley Cup, and at the time thats exactly what Florida was. But then they got ousted in the first round.

Giroux will have his hands full trying to win a Stanley Cup with the Senators. While they have some building pieces (Tim Stutzle, Brady Tkachuk) they are a WAYSSSS away
