the prodigal son of South Philadelphia is coming home as the Philadelphia Flyers have traded a slew of draft picks to the Carolina Hurricanes for Tony DeAngelo. This according to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun. The Flyers will give up a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick spread out over the next three years.

Talent has NEVER been the issue with DeAngelo. Its his attitude. Originally drafted (in Philadelphia) by the Tampa Bay Lightning he came with baggage dating back to his days in the OHL. He was shipped to Phoenix 2 years later for a 2nd round pick. He was then shipped to New York in a HUGE deal centered around Derek Stepan and Anti Raanta and New York is where you finally saw his offensive potential at the point.

But after 4 seasons in New York he wore out his welcome after fighting a teammate and was quite literally kicked off the team even though he was the Rangers best offensive defensemen. He found his way to Carolina this past season on a 1 year deal and flourished in Rod Brind'amour's system, compiling 64 points in 61 games.

If the Flyers looked to get a bit of nastiness they certainly got it in DeAngelo, but its just a matter of him being on his best behavior. A big risk for Chuck Fletcher who will now have to sign DeAngelo long term.

UPDATE:
Looks like a 2 year deal at $5 million for DeAngelo.
