Today In History…..The Stepover
The year was 2001! Car flags were EVERYWHERE and the Sixers had scratched and clawed their way to the finals. Back to back 7 game series against the Raptors and Bucks and their reward was facing the undefeated, defending champion, Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers were sitting on a beach waiting to see who they would face while the Sixers were getting beaten up by Glen Robinson and company. The Sixers got out of the series but they were banged and bruised heading into game 1. The Sixers were HEAVY underdogs but no one told them it was a damn show! They came out swinging from a South Philly basement and when it was all said and done they won 107-101. Shocking the NBA world! It was capped off by the epid Allen Iverson stepover of Lakers guard Tyronn Lue
Unfortunately for the Sixers that was the only game they would win. But they can NEVER take game 1 from us! Honestly, they should have stopped the count…..but they didnt and the Lakers rattled off 4 straight wins for their second straight championship.
It was the last time the Sixers were in the finals and the last time they won a game in the finals. Yea, the clip can officially buy a beer now that its 21 years old, but its a legendary clip in Philly sports lore. If you want to catch the full game click below
