Flyers’ Left Winger James van Riemsdyk joined The John Kincade Show to give a preview of the Flyers’ much anticipated 2021-22 season! There have been a lot of additions made by GM Chuck Fletcher, so there is a good bit of optimism surrounding the Flyers, despite their lackluster 2020 campaign. Van Riemsdyk discussed what he felt went wrong with the team last season, and why he thinks this year will be different:

“I think last year was kind of a perfect storm of just things that went wrong for us and things seemed to snowball and then just kind of got out of reach for us as the year went on, so obviously this year is then going to be a much more normal season as far as our schedule and things like that, again, some of the protocols are a little more relaxed where guys are able to find a little bit better balance. I feel like last year, especially for younger guys, if you don’t have that balance away from the rink it becomes a lot easier to take the game home with you.”

Speaking of younger guys and how they can handle the pressure of an NHL season, van Riemsdyk had a glowing review of young left wing Joel Farabee, and how excited he was to continue to watch him develop:

“We do have quite a few younger players that are already established NHLers and you’re excited to see the growth that they can have. I mean you look at someone like Joel Farabee and the success he’s had in only his first couple years in the league, and just he’s someone you see he’s hungry and really wants to maximize his talent as a player. I think he’s figured that out at a really young age, so I’m definitely excited to see how someone like him grows.”

JVR also broke down the feeling around the team as they prepare for this season, and some other young guns to look for to make a nice jump in production this year! You can listen to his full interview at the link below:
