“you cant put too much into Summer League.” “you cant put too much into Summer League.”  “you cant put too much into Summer League.”  “you cant put too much into Summer League.”  “you cant put too much into Summer League.”

Keep saying it over and over again because we know its true. You truly cant put too much stock into the NBA’s summer league, BUT WERE GONNA PUT A LITTLE BIT INTO THE SIXERS SUMMER LEAGUE!

If you’re a Sixers fan you’re looking for some good news. With the mysterious nature of Joel Embiid’s knee surgery in flux, and the Ben Simmons trade rumors, were a fan base in desperate need of some good news! Look no further than the Sixers Vegas Summer League team and two young players shining under the Vegas sun.

Tyrese Maxey and Paul Reed are two of the best players, not just on the Sixers roster, but in the entire league. Maxey is currently 2nd in the league in points with 26 PPG. He’s also averaging 5.5 rebounds per game, 2 steals, and 1 block. Paul Reed isnt far behind with 17.5 points per game, 12.5 rebounds per game (tied for 1st) and 2.5 blocks per game. He is coming off his best game of the summer where he dropped 27 points and grabbed 20 rebounds with 4 blocks.

The development of these two players is key to not only the long term success for the Sixers, but the 2021-2022 success. Tyrese Maxey in particular could one day become your starting point guard. Maxey’s development could make a Ben Simmons trade easier to swallow for a team that is likely to take 10 cents on the dollar because its clear Simmons wants out. “B-Ball Paul” could serve a key reserve for this team as he continues to flourish (he was the G League MVP.)

With a team as cash strapped as the Sixers, injecting the roster with young CHEAP talent that can actually contribute is huge. Elton Brand and Daryl Morey are going to have to pay Matisse Thybulle soon, and they may want to lock him up sooner rather than later as he continues to up his value. A young core like Thybulle, Maxey and Paul with a splash of a Jaden Springer could be huge. The Sixers have found luck in the later rounds of the NBA draft recently under Brand (Shamet, and Shake Milton come to mind) and these players could be the latest draft day steals.
