With every Olympic Games, new star athletes emerge, and the Tokyo Summer Games were no exception.

Plenty of athletes became overnight celebrities thanks to their performances in Tokyo. Here are just some of the one that caused the biggest headlines:

Caeleb Dressel: Team USA swimmer who won five gold medals.

Suni Lee: Team USA gymnast who won gold in the Women’s All-Around competition. She’s also the first Hmong-American Olympian.

Tamyra Mensah-Stock: Team USA wrestler who became the first Black woman to win gold in the 68kg weightclass.

Skateboarding’s Youth Movement (Momiji Nishiya, Kokona Hiraki, Rayssa Leal, Sky Brown and Funa Nakayama): Nishiya (13), Hiraki (12), Leal (13), Brown (12) and Nakayama(16) all medaled in the first year of Olympic Skateboarding.

April Ross and Alix Klineman: Team USA Beach Volleyball duo that won gold.

Athing Mu: Team USA Track and Field member who won gold in the 800m.

Gabby Thomas: Team USA Track and Field member/Harvard grad who won silver in the 4x100m relay and bronze in the 200m.

Sydney McLaughlin: Team USA Track and Field member who won gold in the 400m hurdles in the world record time of 51.46 seconds.
