The Phillies have traded for SS Freddy Galvis in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles. In return, they are sending RHP Tyler Burch to the Orioles.
Freddy Galvis is returning to the Phillies, confirming @JeffPassan report. Instantly helps one of baseball’s worst infield defenses.

Freddy Galvis spent his first 6 seasons with the Phillies. He was their starting Shortstop from 2015 to 2017, before being traded to the Padres for Enyel De Los Santos.
Galvis is a .247 career hitter, with 104 home runs. But it is his defense he is known for. This addition will give them improved infield depth while giving some much-needed help to their league-worst infield defense. Galvis has the 5th best fielding % among MLB Shortstops this season.
As for Tyler Burch, he is a nearly 24-year old relief pitcher still in High A. He has a 3.99 Era across 29.1 innings this season, although he does have an impressive 49 ks.
It is unclear exactly where Galvis will fit on the roster, but it could mean Ronald Torreyes no longer has a place on the roster.
He is currently on the injured list but is expected to return in the first week of August.
