The Phillies seemed to have an agreement on Tuesday with the Pirates for left handed starter Tyler Anderson, but instead of Anderson joining the rotation Anderson joins the likes of Frank Gore, Maikel Bridges, and Shea Webber as “former Philly athletes.” Because when the deal fell through because of medical concerns in one of the prospects going over to Pittsburgh, the Mariners jumped in and ripped Anderson out of a Phillies jersey

Here is the time line

Jim Salisbury tweets out the trade. It was for Abrahan Gutierrez and Christian Hernandez. Gutierrez was the big piece. Originally signed by the Braves during the international signing period for $3.54 million (which is a ton for an international player.) The Braves had to cut him lose after it was revealed that they signed 12 players using dirty tactics and the players were released from their contracts (they got to keep the money) and were able to sign with other teams. The Phillies got him for $550,000. He was hitting a respectable .285 with 5 home runs and 29 runs batted in Clearwater (A Ball.)

But before you go out and get your Tyler Anderson shirsey HOLD UP!

Multiple reports started coming out a few hours later that the trade was being held up because of an issue with Hernandez’ medicals. But not to worry! The Phillies could surely swap out Hernandez for another prospect! After all, he wasnt the BIG piece in the deal right? WRONG! Not sure if Phillies GM Sam Fuld told the Pirates “Ill call you back when Matt Moore gets a clean inning.” and then was so shocked that it happened he completely forgot. But the Phillies and Pirates couldnt agree on the return.

So in the span of about 7 hours Tyler Anderson went from all time Phillie great, to Seattle Mariner. If there is a silver lining to be had with this situation its the fact that just like you, the Phillies know their rotation isnt good enough. Trade deadline is Friday at 4pm.
