This is where we are at with the Phillies. If you were able to nail down the 9th inning and not blow the game, you’re the closer! If you checked out on the Phillies Monday night, they crushed the Cubs 13-3 and faced a position player in the 9th inning. Until the 8th inning though the game was looking like it may be a save situation. But with the closer position in flux recently it begged the question “Who wouldve closed out the game?” Well Joe Girardi gave his answer after the game.
1 save “congrats! You’re the closer!!”— Pat Egan (@Pat_Egan) July 6, 2021
“Ranger Suarez come on down! Youre the next contestant on can you close out a baseball game!”
Ranger Suarez is having a breakout season for the Phillies. Having come up as a top prospect, but put in the bullpen. He finally has gotten a full time spot this season and has produced. In 31 innings pitched he has a .85 ERA, so he has been the best reliever for the team this season, but he has 1 save in his career and it came in the last save situation the Phillies had this past Saturday.
Lets hope that Ranger can lock down the job because the Phillies desperatly need some stability in the ninth inning.
