It doesn’t matter if you were the biggest Carson Wentz fan, or a Carson Wentz “hater” because there’s one thing we can all agree on, and that’s the fact that Jalen Hurts is selling it! What is “it” you ask? Jalen Hurts is selling you on getting excited about watching Eagles football. Getting excited over a Jalen Hurts led football team.

Hes said all the right things. “Rent is due everyday, and I don’t plan to miss a payment,” was one that had media members and fans swooning. The stories of Hurts connecting to his teammates in a way that Carson Wentz struggled with seems to also be undeniable. (yet something tells me the comments to this piece will deny that.)

The latest example of Jalen Hurts selling us on Eagles football is his comments on Eagles first round pick, and his former teammate at Alabama DeVonta Smith. In case you’re unaware, Alabama is like a pro program. They Are a powerhouse. And everyone in Tuscaloosa wants a piece of the Crimson Tide and their players. Its easy to get wrapped up in it and buy your own hype. But apparently that isn’t at all what happened with Smith, who Hurts says went the exact opposite route.

“I look at the late nights that we had in college where there was nothing else to do, we’d go out there and go throw. Or when I hosted him on a recruiting visit to come to Alabama, usually you want to go maybe go on the strip, the college street in Tuscaloosa, or find something to get into, a party or something like that. His head wasn’t on that. He was trying to work when we were in the (indoor facility), late at night, getting work in. So I think that shows the mentality he has, and I think he’s bringing all that with him here.”

INJECT. THIS. STRAIGHT. INTO. MY. VEINS.

Parties? No thanks! Id rather part it up in the film room. Thats the kind of player I want playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Look, I loved Carson Wentz. But I want Jalen Hurts to succeed. I dont want to be sitting here 10 months from now arguing if the Eagles need to draft a QB or not. While I have my doubts about Hurts at the NFL level (many many doubts) and think there is a good chance they go QB in round 1, I have to admit that hes getting me excited about watching a football team I expect to go 5-13. Because when hes not giving us great soundbites and saying things that get you excited about the leader he is, hes talking up his teammates like he did with that little story.

Lets hope the two can continue the connection they made on that recruiting trip and it results in touchdowns on Sunday at the link
