Look, DeShaun Watson is a hell of a football player. He is also a hell of a football player at a position the Eagles could use. (He plays QB if you were unaware.) He also wants out of Houston. Everything is lining up right now. You’re putting the pieces together. Connecting dots. But not so fast
Because, in a weird twist in the saga known as the NFL, DeShaun Watson is kind of a crummy human. Hes riddled with sexual misconduct allegations after 20 women said Watson was inappropriate with him. In every other line of work Watson would be deemed untouchable. And he probably is. But in the NFL you can be Joe Mixon and your punishment is dropping to the second round. So in the end of the day while logic tells you he should be untouchable you never underestimate how desperate some NFL GM’s are to push morals to the side.
Now that those two paragraphs are out of the way, lets get to the latest. NFL Reporter Peter King was asked to take a break from “Where will Aaron Rodgers go” and comment on the latest with Watson. King doesn’t really have an update, so he speculated. And people are all upset again
“I think predicting the future of Deshaun Watson is fraught with, well, it’s impossible. I just think by a year from today he’ll have a new home. This is a gut feeling. It’s impossible to predict the future with so many legal issues involved. And depending on the outcome of the cases, several teams might not want to even think about Watson, and rightfully so. If he’s free to play football unencumbered by legal issues in 2022, here are my odds on Watson’s next football team, with a tie at the top:
3-1: Philadelphia. A likely need, plus Eagles are in perfect position to deal with three first-round picks (if Carson Wentz plays three-quarters of the Indy season).”
Once again. He speculated. Here is the reality before you take this report seriously.
- Its speculation
- Of course the Eagles are linked. THEY POSSIBLY HAVE THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS NEXT YEAR.
I’m shocked they haven’t been linked to Rodgers. The Eagles will be linked to every since franchise quarterback that asks for a trade between now and the draft next year. Anytime ANYONE wants out the Eagles will be linked. Its what happens when you’re flush with draft capital.
But I mentioned earlier that you shouldn’t underestimate the thirst of an NFL GM to win. A desperate GM might look to deal for Watson because “all’s forgiven if you win games.” But Howie isn’t in that situation. There are no indications that Howie Roseman’s job is on the line. So a desperation “save my job” type move like this makes no sense. Especially considering the negative backlash the organization would receive for giving up a ton to get a guy who has 20+ women accusing him.
So when you see reports like this just keep it movin. Nothing to see here.
