The former fan favorite running back turned coach has finally reached a breaking point with the Eagles. According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark, Duce Staley has asked out of his deal with the Eagles. He is said to have suitors. Mike Garafolo is reporting that the Bears and Lions are two possible landing spots.

Staley rejoined the organization as a special teams quality control coach during the Andy Reid era in 2011. He then became the running backs coach under Chip Kelly. A role that he stayed in during Doug Pederson’s tenure. He was elevated to the title “assistant coach” although what added responsibilities he had I don’t know.

Duce interviewed for the head coaching job in 2016 when Doug Pederson got it. He was also offered the offensive coordinator job in 2017 but turned it down because he wasn’t going to be able to call plays. Doug Pederson didnt call plays in KC & seemed reluctant to hand over that role to anyone.

After Duce didn’t get the head coaching job this time around it became obvious he’d have to probably go elsewhere if he wanted a legitimate shot.
