TORONTO, ONTARIO - AUGUST 18: Carter Hart #79 is congratulated by Travis Konecny #11 of the Philadelphia Flyers after his 2-0 shutout win against the Montreal Canadiens in Game Four of the Eastern Conference First Round during the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at Scotiabank Arena on August 18, 2020 in Toronto, Ontario.

It took a little big but the NHL is back, and the return of the Flyers is less than a month away. If there’s one thing the NHL loves doing, it’s locking players out as they squabble over money, so this resolution was not a forgone conclusion. But the two sides were able to come together and here are the details.

When?

The season will open up on January 13th. This DOES NOT mean the Flyers will be playing on the 13th, a schedule has yet to be released. And according to some unconfirmed reports the NHL may be looking to come back on the 13th with three games, featuring original 6 members.

Is there a trade deadline?

NO!….yes of course there is a trade deadline. Honestly this was just an excuse to use bold font. Probably could’ve included this in the “when” portion but bold font looks more professional! Anyway the trade deadline is April 12th.

Playoffs?

Regular season ends May 8th, so shortly after that.

WAIT! Isnt there a new team?

The Seattle Kraken dont start this year, but they will be a full fledged team in 2021-2022. But there is an effect for this upcoming year. The NHL expansion draft will be July 23rd and July 24th. It will be interesting to see if Seattle can use the draft to their advantage the way Las Vegas did.

When will free agency start?

Free agency will start at midnight on July 28th. Which means Alexander Ovechkin will be a Flyer at 12:01….

Are they changing divisions?

Short answer is yes. This is all fluid, because its up to the Canadian goverment if theyll allow some teams to play this upcoming season. If not, this all could shift things around. But the NHL is trying to limit the amount of travel. So the Flyers will be in the Easter division with: Boston, Buffalo, New Jersey, Islanders, Rangers, Pittsburgh, and Washington. There will be four total divisions. Playoffs is made of top 4 teams from each division.

When hockey does return, can I still hear the games on 97.5 the Fanatic?

Does Sidney Crosby whine a lot? Of course we will have the games. If not us, then our sister station 933 WMMR.
