The Flyers on Wednesday afternoon will look to draw even with the Islanders in their best-of-seven second-round playoff series.

Every postseason contest is pivotal, but Game 2 has become paramount for the Flyers after their 4-0 loss in Game 1.

Let’s get into the essentials for Game 2:

When: 3 p.m. ET with Flyers Pregame Live at 2 p.m. ET on NBCSP
Where: Scotiabank Arena
Broadcast: NBC Sports Network

• Games 2 and 3 of the series come in a back-to-back scenario.

In the regular season, the Islanders were tied with three other clubs for playing the league’s fewest back-to-back sets at eight, while the Flyers played 13.

New York went 5-3-0 in the first game of back-to-back situations and 6-1-1 in the second game. The Flyers went 7-4-2 in the first game of back-to-back sets and 6-5-2 in the second game.

During the regular season, Carter Hart and Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov played only once apiece on no days rest, with both coming in relief duty. In the NHL’s return-to-play 24-team tournament, the 22-year-old Hart is 1-1-0 with 57 saves on 61 shots in games over a back-to-back set, while the 32-year-old Varlamov is 1-1-0 with 45 saves on 50 shots in games over a back-to-back set.

• Travis Konecny, Sean Couturier, Claude Giroux and James van Riemsdyk, four of the club’s top five goal producers during the regular season, remain without a marker in the tournament.

The 10-game goalless droughts for Couturier and Konecny are the longest of the season for both players. Giroux has one goal over his last 22 playoff games spanning the past three times the club has made the postseason. Van Riemsdyk has played in six of the team’s 10 tournament games, averaging 11:50 minutes per game.

The Flyers are deeper in 2019-20, but those players are aware they can and need to do more.

“The top players have got to play better. I’m obviously one of them,” Giroux said Monday. “We’ve got to get going here.”

• The Flyers are 15-24 all-time in best-of-seven series in which they lose Game 1.

• It’s uncertain how the Flyers will roll out their lineup for Game 2.

The Flyers could see a change on defense and various new looks at forward.
