The ever-changing Phillies schedule is changing again.

The Phillies are apparently going to play in New York against the Yankees on Monday and Tuesday. The Yankees will then visit the Phillies on Wednesday and Thursday.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed these plans during a video news conference with reporters on Wednesday. Boone said he was “under the impression” that his club would play the Phillies all week.

Major League Baseball has yet to confirm the schedule changes.

The four-game, home-and-home series between the Phils and Yanks would serve as a makeup for the four-game, home-and-home series that the two teams were supposed to play this week. That series was postponed in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak that hit the Miami Marlins roster over the weekend in Philadelphia.

While the Phillies will sit idle for five days this week, the Yankees were able to shuffle their schedule. They’re playing at Baltimore on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The Orioles were free because their scheduled games in Miami were postponed. The Yankees were supposed to play the Orioles and Rays next Wednesday and Thursday, but those games can apparently be made up in doubleheaders because the Yankees play those clubs multiple times in the American League East. Making up interleague games is more difficult.

The Phillies were initially supposed to be off on Monday then play Tuesday-Thursday in Miami. It’s not clear if the Marlins will even be allowed to play by then as about half of their team is in COVID-19 protocol.

Phillies general manager Matt Klentak would not confirm the change in schedule, but he did indicate that something was afoot and that the Phillies would not be going to Miami next week.

“I don’t know that I’m in the position to talk about it yet,” he said Wednesday afternoon. “I know that the league is on top of that very issue about the safety of teams going into Miami right now, and they’re working on it and we are open to the fact that our schedule may be adjusted next week.”

The Phils’ schedule was adjusted earlier on Wednesday. The first game of the Phillies-Blue Jays series this weekend was pushed from Friday to Saturday. The two teams will play a doubleheader that day starting at 3:07 p.m. There is a possibility that the doubleheader will consist of two seven-inning games. Major League Baseball and the Players Association are talking about making that protocol for doubleheaders that will result from this week’s postponements.
