The Phillies made a couple of cuts ahead of Sunday’s 4 p.m. deadline for MLB teams to submit their 60-player pools of players eligible to participate in the 2020 season.
The Phils released outfielder Matt Szczur and reliever Drew Storen, both of whom were non-roster invitees to the Phillies’ first spring training.
When the regular season begins, rosters will include 30 active players. After two weeks, that drops to 28. After four weeks, it drops to 26, the size of 2020 rosters were set to be prior to the coronavirus shutdown.
Each team can also carry a taxi squad of three players on road trips, so long as one is a catcher.
The 60-man player pool for each team will be comprised of its 40-man roster, plus non-roster invitees and minor-leaguers.
