The NBA is getting back to basketball next month, but if a player decides they want to sit out the remainder of the season, they have until June 24 to decide their plans.
In a statement, the league said, “It is critical that every player understand that he has the right to choose not to return to play. Any player who exercises his right will not be disciplined.”
The paychecks of players who choose not to play will be reduced, but there are some “protected players” and “excused players” who will not see a reduction in salary.
The season was suspended back in March because of the coronavirus pandemic but is set to return on July 30 with 22 teams battling it out for the NBA championship.
