Weekdays 6am - 10am

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter joined the Farzetta & Tra Morning show as he does every Wednesday to discuss the current & on-going NFL free agency period.

Adam covered a lot about what the Eagles have done including the decision with Malcolm Jenkins, the newest addition, DT Javon Hargrave & if the Eagles had real interest in trading for Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins.

Let’s start with the big one, that one that collectively made Eagles fans everywhere groan. The Houston Texans & Philadelphia Eagles spoke about a possible trade for star WR DeAndre Hopkins. What was the Eagles biggest need last year? Wide receiver. On the surface it’s a no brainer trade that makes sense for the Eagles.

Most around the league & on social media were stunned to see how LITTLE Hopkins went for to the Arizona Cardinals, which was former All-Pro RB David Johnson & 2 future draft picks (a 2nd & a 4th).

But we don’t know what Houston was asking for in return from Philadelphia one, & secondly there’s a looming contract re-do that Hopkins from most reports is expecting, that Houston refused to give him.

DeAndre Hopkins is 27 years old, will be 28 this summer & suspects this is his last chance at a major contract, even with 3 years remaining on his current contract. He saw what kind of guarantees that Michael Thomas got ($60 million) & Julio Jones (64 million) got & wants his fair share of the pie since most consider him one of the two best WR’s in the game.

So that’s the other part of the equation for Howie Roseman to deem not worth the price tag, literally. This is most unpleasant news to Eagles fans ears though.

Next up for discussion was the decision to not pick up Malcolm Jenkins’ contract option for this upcoming season, thus making Malcolm a free agent in the NFL.

Adam had a different school of thinking on this than most Eagles fans who viewed it as a slight to Malcolm.

It does raise an interesting question, did the Eagles do Malcolm a favor by releasing him to the open market & thus giving him a chance to make more money than they were willing to give him by picking up the option? Adam Schefter thinks so, as it is just a guess of Adam’s but it makes sense.

This contract “dispute” is nothing new between Malcolm & the Eagles as this has been going on for over a year. Last year the two sides came to some kind of agreement that things would get worked out & Adam speculates that maybe this was part of it.

Malcolm seems to think he can get more money on the open market & if that’s the case, good for him. He’s forever an Eagles legend & a Super Bowl champion & Eagles fans wish him nothing but the best.

Finally on the table was the new addition the Eagles did bring in, DT Javon Hargrave. Adam seemed to think that he was a guy around the league that a lot of teams had interest in & the Eagles got a really good player.

Most Eagles fans aren’t watching Steelers games & breaking down the DT play but by all accounts, the Eagles got a very good & ascending player in Javon Hargrave.

He’s going to be getting around $13 million a year at a position most thought, the Eagles were pretty stacked at with Fletcher Cox & Malik Jackson already in place. He should bring a serious amount of depth to the line as he can get to the QB as well as stop the run.

The line should be fresher throughout the season & it overall gives the defensive line a lot of flexibility heading into the new season.
