Hey, wow! Some good Phillies news for once. Finally.
Cole Hamels threw a 40-plus pitch bullpen session this morning in Clearwater and is expected to throw live batting practice on Saturday if he feels okay tomorrow. The tentative plan is throwing one more live batting practice before getting back into live game action.
From ace MLB.com Phillies reporter Todd Zolecki:
“I’m pleased, being able to build my pitch count, getting the reps I need. I was able to get a lot of pitches out of the stretch, and I introduced the windup, which I haven’t done since last year. Getting familiar with that again and being able to build the reps from there, it’s obviously a step in the right direction.”
Hamels went on to say that hey’ve been playing it safe all long and they’ll continue to be cautious going forward. It still sounds like we won’t see him until late April at the earliest.
